Boat and Smoke Alarm with fried Salmon Croquette

The dogs and I are having a quiet evening on the boat with them praying that I drop something. Fried Salmon in the air, pasta in boiling water, heated up enhanced Amy's Tomato soup, all while keeping mosquitoes at bay. Right when everything is done, the smoke alarm started going off.

All my focus is to get through the dogs to stop the smoke alarm, and to open hatches as I go. Apparently I just reached the smoke point for olive oil. I now remembered the last time that I fried croquettes, the smoke alarm went off too. Next time remove the battery before I fry croquettes, because leaving the stove is far more dangerous.

The dinner was fabulous with a great bottle of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wine by Cruz Alta  ($9) from Mendoza province, Argentina. The salmon was the Chicken of the Sea Salmon (boneless, drained, rinsed once to reduce the salt), Hellman mayonnaise, stale crackers, thyme, rosemary, lemon juice, and rolled in cornmeal. Ziti noodles with can of Amy's tomato soup (add basil, thyme, as a sauce), slices of left over garlic bread. You can see the steam and smell the dish, can't you. Yum!

Try two more dishes on the boat, Maque Choux (messed up by letting it boil and milk curdled) and Bread Pudding (cook for at least 45 minutes+ in a silicon loaf pan at 300-350 degrees F in water bath on baking sheet and let cool).  Super Yum!!

Check out Food Gawker.
Maque Choux: fresh corn, tomatoes, red onions, celery, bell peppers, half/half, thyme, pepper

  1. LOVE your Canine Crew! We also have a doggie that we have recently added to our crew. Acting as our alarm system and future pirate watch make him a valuable crew member! :) Good post- your salmon and asparagus meal looks delicious too. Looking forward to reading more and keeping up with your blog!

Our plan is to untie the dock lines this summer and start long-term cruising, but we are working to fatten our kitty for now so your blog gives us motivation!! Thanks! :)

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words. Keeping our big dogs active has been a struggle with all the bad storms that have been blowing through. But once it clears, they run up and down the docks chasing each other and running between JT and myself. Tackling the Gulf of Mexico for the first time, Bud turned green from sea sickness (did not throw up) but Whitley handled the waves like a champ. Next is to teach them to use the bow for a bathroom break...

I miss South Carolina, and hope to one day sail across and see Savannah and Charleston again.
