Dead Calm or Boat Show

Beautiful, warm weekend in Galveston Bay, we unfurled the head sail and turned off the motor. Sailing north for about 10 minutes, the winds stopped. The wind meter was spinning around like a stopwatch. Was it broken? No, just no wind to direct the windex. So we found an isolated spot in Galveston Bay to have lunch.

What drives someone to be near you in an empty space? In a theater, elevator, or large body of water some people just want to gravitate to us while many times we prefer to be alone. (Don't all sailors feel that way?) As we sat eating our lunch, a sailboat motored close enough to us that I could clearly see their faces, and stopped next to us. Seriously? Well we finished up and headed back to our slip. The speed boats and cigarette boats were out in full throttle plowing near us as we motored in. We found out that if they refuse to slow down in a no wake area, a siren sound makes them slow down very quickly.

Cleaning off the boat from any spray or bird waste, we headed over to South Shore Harbor for the Boat Show and Latitudes and Attitudes Party (free beer, Land Shark and Budlight, and free Papa Johns Pizza). Super yum.

After great difficulty with the online tickets, we made it in and the show was packed with motorboat stuff, hot tubs, art, and communication gadgets. We examined the Iridium phone and got the rundown from GComm on its features and found out how small our boating world really is, since the GComm guy purchased the boat that we were going to get if we did not get the Catalina by our same favorite broker.

Music was very good by Hannah's Reef.  Drinks and food was worth the wait and price to get in for the show.
