Surfing the Waves

Very light winds and extremely calm seas accompanied us on our final leg of our journey.  Upon returning from TMCA 2nd Spring Fling we motored the entire time up the Houston Ship Channel with little traffic, but like all things smooth quickly changed.

Right when we were turning at the South Boaters Cut to Kemah this huge cargo ship was creating these huge wakes that we can even see in the distance breaking across Trinity Bay, with long, high white caps.  Slowly it rolled to us, and the wave did not decrease in size.  We turned the stern to the wave, and up we go riding the wave on Exodus.  The dogs braced themselves for the wave as well.  I think that our Golden might be ready for her own board...

At the crest of the wave the depth read 13+ feet and at the trough it was 10 feet, and the waves continued up until the Kemah Channel.  Surfing the tanker waves may might the hottest thing in the Bay, but I would rather stick to the natural ocean waves.

Featured in documentary about surfing, Step into Liquid in 2003, but a bit more restricted by the US Coast Guard since Sept. 11th attack.
